UAE Childcare

UAE childcare is an information page for parents in the Middle East. Hiring a childcare professional to look after your child is one of the most important decisions a Mother or Father have to make. We have divided the childcare sectors as follows as a basic guideline for Parents.

Nannies
A nanny is employed by a family in either a live-in or live-out basis. The function of a nanny is to essentially be responsible for all care of the children in the home in a largely unsupervised setting. Duties are typically focused on childcare and any household chores or tasks related to the children. A nanny may or may not have any formal training; however, many have significant actual experience and certificates in the childcare field. A nanny typically works full-time of at least 50 hours a week.

Salary range 250 - 800 GBP pounds per week

Maternity Nurses
A maternity nurse is on duty 24 hours a day six days a week. The role is helping new mothers in all aspects of caring for the newborn, from breast feeding to establishing a routine and bathing, and helping mum get back on her feet. Maternity nurses generally sleep with their charges and either bring the baby to mum for breast feeding during the night or bottle feeding the baby themselves so that the mother has a chance to recover from the birth.

The maternity nurse is there to provide the mother with a sense of security during those physically and mentally exhausting first few weeks after childbirth.

Qualifications
People tend to assume that maternity nurses are nurses with some kind of specialist
qualification in the field of newborns.Most maternity nurses tend to be very
experienced nannies. However some are registered nurses, ex-midwives or health
visitors.

Salary range 500 - 1200 GBP per week

Au Pairs
An au pair is a young person between 18 and 30 years who becomes a temporary ember
of your family. Usually, it's a young girl (90 percent) but more and more often, young ladies are taking the opportunity to improve their language skills and get acquainted with a new culture.

The au pair will take care of your children and help with light housework including vaccuming, dusting, preparing the table for meal times and emptying the dishwasher. They are not as experienced as a Nanny.

Salary range 100 - 200 GBP per week

Governess
A woman employed to educate and train the children of a private household.

Salary range 600 -1000 GBP per week

Filipino Nannies
Many choose this option here in the Middle East. Prospective Nannies must have relevant childcare experience and qualification such as a nursing qualification, teacher or as a care giver. Most are mothers and have hand on experience. It is advisable to interview nannies face to face.

Salary range is 2000 -4000 UAE DH per month.

Shadow Teachers
Educating children with special needs and learning disabilities can be difficult. They take more time and attention -- which many teachers never seem to have enough of. Hours can be from 6 – 10 hours per day, five days a week.
